The Problem
FuturesVPS sells managed VPS hosting to futures and forex traders — a niche audience that values uptime and low latency above everything. The product was solid, but the marketing was nonexistent:
- No onboarding emails. New customers got a generic WHMCS welcome email and nothing else. No setup guides, no check-ins, no follow-up if they went quiet.
- No trial conversion system. Trial users would sign up, poke around for a few days, and disappear. Nobody was nudging them toward a purchase.
- No social presence. The Twitter account was suspended. There was no active posting anywhere.
- No CRM or segmentation. Customer data lived in WHMCS with no way to segment, score, or target based on behavior.
The founder knew marketing mattered but didn't have the bandwidth to set up HubSpot, learn Mailchimp, and manage Buffer on top of running infrastructure.
What We Built
We deployed a complete marketing automation stack on a single Contabo VPS ($7/mo) and built everything the business needed to run marketing on autopilot.
Email Automation (7 Workflows)
All emails are dark-themed to match the FuturesVPS brand, with full social footer and consistent CTAs:
- Welcome Email — Fires immediately on new order via webhook from WHMCS. Includes login credentials, quick-start guide, and support contact.
- Day 1 Setup Guide — Sent 24 hours after signup. Step-by-step guide to connecting MetaTrader to their VPS.
- Day 3 Check-in — "How's it going?" email with a direct line to support. Catches issues before they become churn.
- Day 5 Trial Expiry — For trial users approaching their expiry date. Highlights what they'll lose and offers a one-click upgrade.
- Day 7 Win-back — For expired trials that didn't convert. Includes a limited discount offer.
- Day 30 Referral — Happy customers get a referral incentive after their first full month.
- Post-Purchase Upsell — Cross-sells higher-tier plans based on current usage.
Every workflow triggers automatically — no manual sends, no spreadsheets, no forgotten follow-ups.
Social Media Scheduling
- Connected the new @tryfxvps Twitter account to Postiz
- Created a content calendar: 2 tweets/day (London open + NY open) covering trading tips, product features, and industry content
- First batch of 10 tweets scheduled across the launch week
- Content pipeline set up for ongoing scheduling
CRM & Lead Nurture
- Mautic configured as the central CRM with contacts synced from WHMCS
- Segmentation by plan type, trial status, and engagement level
- Lead scoring based on email opens, link clicks, and login activity
- Foundation ready for future campaigns (product launches, seasonal promos, re-engagement)
The Stack
| Component | Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow orchestration | n8n | Triggers, logic, API calls |
| Email & CRM | Mautic | Contacts, segments, campaigns |
| Social scheduling | Postiz | Twitter/X posting calendar |
| Email delivery | SparkPost | SMTP with DKIM/SPF |
| Database | PostgreSQL + MariaDB | Shared data layer |
| Reverse proxy | Caddy | Auto TLS, routing |
All running on a single $7/mo VPS. Total infrastructure cost: $7/month vs the $1,200+/mo it would cost for HubSpot Marketing Hub + Buffer + equivalent capabilities.
